Words Written This Week: 13,231 (Down considerably from last week, but that's not surprising. On the positive front, I have a diagnosis for my pain issues and a few upcoming PT appointments to get things set.)

5,546 on Catchweight, my Marvel Trumps Hate Shrinkyclinks fill. One more chapter and an epilogue left on this one, which I think I have plotted out now. Then, I’ll let it rest.

on Sekrit Project which I’m now thinking might be my CBB entry if I do it this year.

2,204 on practice my maintenance (as hard as you can), which was the surprise hit of the week. More people have my id than I thought, who knew. But then I got made to feel like total shit about it by a friend, so THAT is also fun. Shrug! SHRUUUUG!

5,481 on a...sequel square to practice my maintenance. This one fills the “phone sex” square and y’all are terrible enablers, but the world was too compelling not to continue. Don’t know if I’ll have it edited and posted this week, but I’m going to try.

Did I Make My Goals?

  • Edit Spanking Bench
    Yes!
  • Chapters 13-14 of Catchweight
    Yes!
  • Chapters 4-5 of Sekrit Project
Sadly, no, this one didn’t get touched

WIP Updates/Goals for Next Week:

To Write & Edit:

  • Edit pmm sequel
  • Chapter 15 and epilogue of Catchweight
  • Chapter 4 of Sekrit Project
  • Chapter 1-2 of merBucky (eeeeee)

To Publish:

  • Maybe pmm sequel.

Things that are likely to fuck with my progress:

  • Work is busy
  • I am feeling the faint tinglings of burnout

Words Written This Week: 23,309 (Jesus fuckstick Christ. Two kink bingo squares written in a week will do that to ya, I guess. Seriously, though, it’s a lot easier to let smut and silliness pour forth than it is to think through longform plot and nuance. There’s a big split in the “fun” words I wrote versus the “part of a larger narrative” words I wrote. Something to ponder, I guess.)

4,907 on Catchweight, my Marvel Trumps Hate Shrinkyclinks fill. I’m a ways into Chapter 13. Slowly but surely, because it’s the action scenes, and I hate writing action, so I’ve been trying to pace myself and not stress too much about it, since I know it’s going to suck on the first go around.

5,299 on Sekrit Project and oh, Lord, this one’s gonna make me cry.

6,605 on Let It Out So It Can Breathe, my Kink Bingo square for “Lapdances.” This one was written and posted within the space of about four days, so I have no excuse for how weird it is. There’s something freeing about finishing, letting it sit for a day or two, and posting. Probably not my most literary work, but eh, not noodling over something endlessly is good for me.

6,498 on another Kink Bingo square, for Spanking Bench. This is one of the iddier id!fics I’ve ever written, in that it hits about 10 different tropes I adore during one single spanking. So, you know, if you’re into that, it’s coming.

Did I Make My Goals?

  • Chapters 11-13 of Catchweight
    Sadly, only 11 and 12, though I’m maybe a third into 13.
  • Chapter 3 of Sekrit Project
Yes! And a bit into chapter 4.
  • A bingo square
    Yes! Two, actually.

WIP Updates/Goals for Next Week:

To Write & Edit:

  • Edit Spanking Bench
  • Chapters 13-14 of Catchweight
  • Chapters 4-5 of Sekrit Project

To Publish:

  • Spanking Bench

Things that are likely to fuck with my progress:

  • Start physical therapy on my shoulder this week. If that hurts, typing might be hard.
  • Decently busy week at work, lots of meetings, which cuts into writing time (not that I ever write at work, oh no)
  • I can feel the creeping flame of burnout at my back. Might intentionally go a little slower this week.

Words Written This Week: 16,416 (I legitimately did not realize I had written this much! I'm finding that not being committed to a chapter a day is helping me write more, weirdly enough. I can jump from project to project and do what calls me, rather than what I think I "should" be writing. Plus, I'm not editing anything at the moment, which is nice.)

8,966 on Catchweight, my Marvel Trumps Hate Shrinkyclinks fill. This puts me through Chapter 10, and I think there are about four more chapters to go. Not sure when it will be posting, as there’s a surprise coming with it.

3,784 on Sekrit Project that I’m not talking about.

1,625 on Go Fish, my first Kink Bingo fill. The reception to this was way more than I expected, so thank you to everyone who read it and let me know you liked it!

2,052 on another Kink Bingo square, for Dom Drop. This one got weird on me, not sure if I like it. May punt it and go back to the drawing board, or only use parts of it. I think I’m going to let it lie for a while and do some goofier squares instead.

Did I Make My Goals?

  • Finish Humiliation square
    Yes!
  • Chapters 9-11 of MTH Shrinkyclinks
    Not quite through 11.
  • Chapter 2 of New Project
    Yes!
  • Get Fuckfarm into Scrivener, print out a full copy. Go to town with a red pen.
Nope, because I discovered through printing out Go Fish that first drafts don’t do well with being printed, as they need too much work. Only second drafts.

WIP Updates/Goals for Next Week:

To Write & Edit:

  • Chapters 11-13 of Catchweight
  • Chapter 3 of Sekrit Project
  • A bingo square

To Publish:

  • I said nothing last week, but if I finish a bingo square, who knows

Things that are likely to fuck with my progress:

  • Class
  • Work is busy-ish this week
  • IDK after a super high WC week, I usually have a drop off

Words Written This Week: 10,539 (Not a bad way to start the new year off right! Things slacked off towards the end of the week, but having the approximate 1k-per-day number in my head feels manageable, so even if I'm tired or don't want to write, I can sit down and at least bang out 1k.)

4,636 on my Marvel Trumps Hate Shrinkyclinks fill, which now has the tentative title of Catchweight. I really like this story, and I’m hoping to finish it this month so I can let it lie for a little while before editing.

4,887 on something new that I’ve been wanting to write for a while. Not saying too much about it, but I think it’s going to be good. It’s a bit different than things I’ve written before, format-wise, so that’s fun.

1,016 on a Kink Bingo fill for the “Humiliation” square. I’m reusing my card from Round 2, since I never did anything with it, and writing one-shots is a good way to give my brain a break from the longer stuff. Hopefully will have this edited and posted by the end of the month since my goal with these guys is just to sort of throw them into the universe without fussing so much.

Did I Make My Goals?

  • Chapters 7-9 of my MTH Shrinkyclinks
Made it through chapters seven and eight, not quite done with nine. But still, not bad!

WIP Updates/Goals for Next Week:

To Write & Edit:

  • Finish Humiliation square
  • Chapters 9-11 of MTH Shrinkyclinks
  • Chapter 2 of New Project
  • Get Fuckfarm into Scrivener, print out a full copy. Go to town with a red pen.

To Publish:

  • Once again, nothing. Feels weird, man!

Things that are likely to fuck with my progress:

  • Class starts on Monday :(
  • I have a doctor’s appointment also on Monday for my shoulder strain and idk, maybe I get told it’s all this typing I’m doing?

Look, y’all, this is cheesy as hell, but I set a goal and I achieved it, so I’m gonna do a post to celebrate. Ring-a-ding-ding!

Last January, I began doing weekly accountability posts for myself. Setting goals, trying to hit wordcounts, and so on. It has been 52 weeks, and while I plan on continuing this for the foreseeable future, I am going to tweak the formula slightly. To begin with, though, I want to look back at what I've done.

Total Wordcount for 2018:

578,701

Holy actual shit. That is an average of 1,585 words a day, nearly 50% more than the original 1k a day goal I set for myself. I'm shboggled, and proud, and while I don't think that this is in any way a sustainable pace, writing so much this year helped me stay on the fringes of a creeping depression that I've been dealing with for some time.

Other 2018 stats:
Goals for 2019:
  • Hold myself to the 1k a day standard
  • Participate in at least one bang
  • Edit and post the following:
    • MerBucky
    • Fuckfarm
  • Write:
    • Marvel Trumps Hate Shrinkyclinks
    • Marvel Trumps Hate 70s fill
    • Marvel Trumps Hate WW3some fill
    • Other WW3some project
    • PeggyNat PI sequel
    • One-shots. I miss one-shots!
    • At least one original m/m romance
Everything else is gravy. Happy new year, pals, and thank you for enabling me in doing all of this with all the comments and asks and general encouragement.

Words Written This Week: 6,350 (About par for the course with how busy my week was and the fact that I got the stomach flu and/or food poisoning on Thursday night, hosted a party last night, and had quality time with craockzilla and her smol.)

2,634 on merBucky. This gets me through chapter 40. Two chapters + an epilogue left which is my only goal for next week. I’ll finish this thing if it kills me. And it might.

3,716 on Mergers and AcquisitionsRewrites and edits on chapters 6-7. Last chapter posts today. I am legit sort of glad to be done.

on my Marvel Trumps Hate Shrinkyclinks.

Did I Make My Goals?

  • Chapter 40 of merBucky
    Yes!
  • Chapter 7 of Shrinkyclinks
I got like 1/3 of this written and then decided I didn’t like it, so it’s not included in wordcount this week. I may gut the chapter.
  • Edit chapters 6-7 of M&A
    Yup!

WIP Updates/Goals for Next Week:

To Write & Edit:

  • Chapters 41, 42 & epilogue of merBucky
  • Edit Steggy Secret Santa

To Publish:

  • Chapter 7 of M&A
  • Steggy Secret Santa which still needs a title

Things that are likely to fuck with my progress:

  • Christmas fuckery in a good way
  • A family situation wherein I may be spending some time at a hospital
  • It’s a week off work. I wanna sleep and watch movies.

Took this from [personal profile] newsbypostcard

What made you start writing fanfic?

In the summer of 1997, a little band called Hanson broke onto the scene with an infectious little ditty called MMMBop. I adored them, and for the first time in my young life, I had unfettered access to the internet, whereas before I'd only been able to dabble under parental supervision. This deep dive brought me to the fledgling Hanson fanfic community, wherein we were ALL the next door neighbors of Isaac, Taylor, and Zac. I started writing my first fic on an Angelfire page right then and there.

After Hanson, I moved into Gundam Wing, then Lord of the Rings. I also dabbled in X-Files and Dawson's Creek fic, of all things. During college/a few years after, I dipped out of fanfic and fandom entirely, but rediscovered it in about 2012 when Supernatural Dean/Cas stuff drew me in. It was a slippery slope to the MCU from there, and I've been comfortably playing in that sandbox ever since.

Which of your own fanfics have you reread the most?

Probably Proprietary Information, just because it's the one I need to go back to most often for sequels, etc. I hate reading my own stuff, so I try and revisit as little as possible.

Describe the differences between your first fanfic and your most recent fanfic.

My first fic was legitimately a barely disguised self-insert in which the main character fell in love with Taylor Hanson after he moved next door to her. I am absolutely sure it was dreck, but I have no way of knowing, as it has long since been purged from the Internet. I'm sure I relied heavily on cliches, and I'm sure my self-insert was an absolute Mary Sue. But I am so glad I wrote that dreck, because it was what I needed at the time, and I am of the firm belief that every word I have ever written has helped me grow into a better writer.

Do you think your style has changed over time? How so?

Yes and no. I think going to journalism school for undergrad has helped me hone my language and be very judicious with what I want to say. However, I have never been one for purple prose or an overly-wrought metaphor. Just The Facts, Ma'am, whether those facts are description, dialogue, or anything else - I'll be sparse, but hopefully effective.

You've posted a fic anonymously. How would someone be able to guess that you'd written it?

Overuse of the phrase "level best." I swear to God I have to cut ten of those little bastards out of every chapter I write.

Name three stories you found easy to write.

Proprietary Information, which was a dream, probably because I wasn't that involved with fandom as a whole yet, so I didn't have the expectations of, "this is cliche!" "This trope sucks!" "Ew modern AU!" "Ew!" "Ew!" "Don't use epithets!" "Only use some epithets!" "Bucky can only be written THIS way" "Steve can't do that!" and so on, and so forth. I do love fandom, but holy shit, it can be prescriptive.

Under One Small Star was also easy, in that I wrote it quickly and had fun with the process. I would also say that The Voyager was a relatively easy process, although harder than the other two.

Name three stories you found difficult to write.

I hit a huge block on Family Placement, largely because of the issues outlined above that I didn't have with Proprietary Information. I let other people's voices get in my head about what was and wasn't "acceptable" in fic, and started writing to please them rather than to please myself. Which is absolute nonsense, and I've since gotten over it: write whatever the fuck you want. It's your bliss, and who gives a shit if anyone else likes it?

Hooked Into Machine required a total overhaul/rewrite because the first draft didn't spend nearly enough time with Bucky and his mental state. And finally, merBucky may be the death of me. Christ, I've been writing it since May of last year and I have no idea if it's even GOOD, I just know that it's LONG.

What's your ratio of hits to kudos?

I haven't done the ratio, but I average between 7-10%? Some of my stories are much better, and some are much worse.

What do your fic bookmarks say about you?

That I am fandom agnostic so long as things hit my id!fic tropes. Also, that I hide a lot of my kinkier/weirder bookmarks.

What's a theme that keeps coming up in your writing?

Huh. I'm not sure that there is one! Other people might find ones that I haven't seen. I guess I write a lot about found families and mental health.

What kind of relationships are you most interested in writing?

Flawed ones, where the characters are recognizably human and make mistakes. I don't want to write pod people, but at the same time, I won't write drama for the sake of drama.

For E-rated fic, what are some things your characters keep doing?

There's usually an element of power exchange, even if it's subtle. Also, giggling and laughter are big with me. If you're not laughing during sex, what even is life?

Name three favorite characters to write.

Peggy is my favorite, Bucky is my easiest, Steve is my most rewarding.

You're applying for the fanfic writer of the year award. What five fanfics do you put in your portfolio?

Family Placement, The Voyager, Under the Bridges of Fame, Vague Fancies and Carnal Appetites, and (because the universe loves it, even if I don't feel the same devotion) Tiptoe Through the Tulips

Words Written This Week: 9,421 (This is a lot more than I thought I wrote! It felt like a very unproductive week, but when I went back and actually tallied things up, it wasn't terrible. Just goes to show that you don't always have a good sense of these things.)

5,164 on merBucky. This gets me through chapter 39. I think there are possibly three or four chapters left. It's hard to say, but I really do feel like I'm getting close. I also built a map and named all the places in this particular fantasy world, so like...we're getting there!

3,532 on Mergers and Acquisitions. Rewrites and edits on chapters 4-5.

725 on my Marvel Trumps Hate Shrinkyclinks.

Did I Make My Goals?
  • Finish chapter 38 of merBucky
    Yes! And 39!
  • Chapter 6 of Shrinkyclinks
    Yes! It’s a short-ass chapter, but I did it!
  • Edit chapters 4-5 of M&A
Yes! Ah, I can’t remember the last time I hit all my writing goals!

WIP Updates/Goals for Next Week:

To Write & Edit:
  • Chapter 40 of merBucky
  • Chapter 7 of Shrinkyclinks
  • Edit chapters 6-7 of M&A

To Publish:

  • Chapters 5-6 of M&A

Things that are likely to fuck with my progress:

  • Seeing friends and family (this is not a bad thing!)
  • Wrapping up work stuff before the break
